Reminder: we will have swim practice sessions starting Wednesday, June 24th!

    Hi again everyone,

Just a reminder that we have swim practice sessions starting Wednesday and there's still room. To be clear: we have more than enough demand to run the program, so there is no doubt this is a go. Details (slightly altered) are below, and I've changed the schedule so that everyone gets more swimming for their money. But sign up here now to get started this week!

    Previous message (slightly updated):

    Hi everybody,

We will have 3-day-a-week swim practice starting Wed. June 24th, and from then until the last week of July every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We'll have 2 sessions, 8AM-11AM, and each swimmer will be in the water for 1 hour 15 minutes per day. I'll put the details below, and it won't be like normal swim team, but it will get your kids off their screens and exercising several times a week. We are also coordinating with our tennis program, so you can get your kids even more exercise. If we can manage it, we'll add a couple of swim scrimmages on Saturday mornings, but first we have to confirm that we have enough demand. (I had a message here about cancelling but we have more than enough demand, so this is a go!)

To participate, you must both be a member and signed up for swim team. So, if you want your kids to swim, and you're not yet a member, go here and sign up for the pool. Then go here and sign up for swim team. (For the few who already signed up for swim team, you're in, just confirm to me in an email you want your kids to participate.) For this program, it is $100 per kid, no discounts, no maximums. I will discuss the reasons why below, but I really have no choice in this. Also, use of the pool is already so restricted that I can't offer afternoon practice. This will be morning practice only.

ONLY FULL LAZERS CAN PARTICIPATE! We will have only 2 coaches on deck for COVID restriction reasons so we will not have the coaching ratio necessary for Little Lazers. I wish I could do something different, but again, I have no choice. If you have doubts about whether your child is ready for this program, email me. (It does look like we will have a winter swim program that will look a little more normal, so marginal swimmers may qualify for that program.) I can't wrap my head around how lessons could be offered yet but if I figure out a way, maybe individual lessons will be available for younger swimmers.

We'll ask that swimmers come in their suits and leave without changing; if necessary for tennis, we will come up with a solution only for those who have to change for tennis. Bathrooms will be available only for emergencies so please go before you leave your house. This is to minimize close contact and cleaning requirements for COVID. Parents may watch BUT ONLY FROM BEYOND THE FENCE except for an emergency, and you will need to maintain social distancing. Masks are not required outside but are encouraged. Please be kind to your swim team family members by limiting the spread of COVID.

There's probably more, but for now, if you're interested, sign up! This dovetails nicely into the final topic, which is why the rates are higher than normal and the amount of swimming less. Like everyone else, the pool is under severe financial distress due to the pandemic, and we barely have enough income to operate. Just raising enough funds to open in 2021 will be difficult, so I have no choice to make sure this program more than breaks even. If we get 17 swimmers, we can open the program and make a little money for the pool. Every additional sign up will help even more, and we need every penny. In addition, summer swim only breaks even through thousands of dollars in fundraising, snack bar proceeds, and merchandise. None of that is forthcoming this year. It's the best I can do.

So SIGN UP! This both supports LPRC and is healthy for your kids. A win-win!
