Winter Swim β€” A Few Notes & Optional Goals Form

    Hello Lazer Family!

I am SO excited to get to see everyone on October 10 at 5:15 at the JCC! πŸ’™πŸ’›

I wanted to send a quick email with a few general notes about winter swim, invite you all to send me any questions you may have as we get started, and also share an OPTIONAL Google Form for families who would like to share goals or information about your swimmer with me!

A Few Notes About Winter Swim 🏊

My goal for winter swim is to make sure our swimmers get lots of opportunities to fine-tune and practice all four strokes while continuing to build confidence, strength, and good technique.

We will start the winter with freestyle as our main focus and then work our way through the strokes throughout the year. I will plan out the season so that we have a good amount of time dedicated to each stroke and can really focus on the skills that will help our swimmers improve.

Of course, we will continue to swim all four strokes throughout our practices so that we don't forget about the others! However, when it comes to our main focus or specific skills we are working to improve, I will generally go one stroke at a time so we can really work on technique and make progress.

    Pretend Meets! 🏁

Because they were so much fun last year, we will be doing TWO pretend meets this winter!

    We will have:

    • One pretend meet in December
    • One pretend meet at the very end of winter swim

These will be a fun way for the swimmers to practice racing, get comfortable with meet routines, and see how the skills they have been working on translate into racing!

A Note About Our Rising 9-Year-Olds

For swimmers who are currently 8 years old and will be 9 by the start of summer 2027, I will initially have them swimming with the 8 & Under lane.

I want them to start winter swim feeling comfortable and confident and to stay in shape with workouts and expectations that feel familiar. However, about halfway through the winter, I will begin moving these swimmers into more challenging workouts and gradually increasing the expectations.

The goal is to make sure they have plenty of time to adjust and build up their endurance and skills so that they feel strong, confident, and ready to jump into the 9–10 group for summer!

    Optional Swimmer Goals Form πŸ’

I would also LOVE to hear from families about your swimmer!

This form is completely optional, but if there are specific goals you have for your swimmer, skills you would love to see them work on, or anything else you think would be helpful for me to know, please feel free to share it with me here:
