PRACTICE IS ON TODAY, but it will be chilly! Potentially moving the carwash! Putting a face with an introduction...

    Hi everyone,

First, practice is on today, but it will be chilly. Probably bringing bathrobes and other warming clothes is a good idea. (The water is not too bad, but it will be cold getting out.) Remember to bring shoes for the dry land portion of the practice.

MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE: we may need to move the carwash (and if we can't move it, we'll have to cancel, and for monetary reasons, we really need not to cancel). We've known for some time that the first Saturday of June is problematic because spring sports schedules have expanded and most folks can't manage to help that day, but we've stuck with it because it's pretty much the only Saturday available before swim meets take over our lives.

Given this conundrum, I propose a radical change: Let's move the carwash to the evening of June 7th, the night before Time Trials, and treat it as a season-opening pep rally/fundraiser and give the kids ice cream, etc. Then, some willing folks can go over to the pool and set up for our first meet the next day. Set up for time trials is minimal so if 5-10 people are available, it would take something like 20 minutes. I think this would be a fun way to start the season, and I already have some ice cream left over from previous events.

Braddock Baptist Church and our carwash coordinators have already agreed to this plan, and I appreciate their flexibility. But I don't want to move it simply to cancel again. So, I'm going to engage in a highly unscientific poll (my dissertation advisor would be so disappointed): please respond to this email if you and/or your kids can help with the carwash 6-8PM on Friday, June 7th, with the additional inducement of an ice cream pep rally that night. Give me an idea of how many kids and/or adults can help, and once I get to a reasonable number for running a carwash, I'll confirm the switch.

Please let me know ASAP! I have people waiting for that info.

Finally, If folks want to put a face with an introduction, we received a picture today of our new coach, Isaac Ermarth. The picture is directly below, and I've pasted below that the introduction Catherine sent around in her newsletter yesterday. We're really excited to welcome him onboard!

Hello, Lincolnia Park family! My name is Isaac Ermarth and this will be my fourth year coaching summer swim. In the past, I coached for Orange Hunt Swim Club and swam 13 unforgettable seasons there. Through the fall and winter, I continued to coach for the club’s winter program mainly focused on younger swimmers. It was a pleasure to manage coaching and swimming in various divisions of NVSL and I am glad to be back in the league with a coaching role.

In addition to swimming at Orange Hunt, I played 5 seasons of water polo at the Capital Water Polo Club in Alexandria. In 2019, I was chosen as a member of the ‘04-‘05 Mens USA National Team. Additionally, I swam varsity for the West Springfield High School Spartans mainly competing in freestyle, backstroke, and IM events.

This fall, I will be attending the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and will be studying music and business. When I am not swimming or studying, I am practicing music on my trombone or can be found in the woods hiking and fishing. I can’t wait for another wonderful summer coaching in NVSL and to join the Lazers family! Isaac Ermarth
