Exciting news! A Meet tomorrow - please help us set up at 8PM! Winter swim survey!
June 28th
Some news:
- For the first time in roughly 14 years, LPRC will be represented at All-Stars Relays. We will be represented by the 9-10 girls medley relay and the 9-10 girls freestyle relay. This meet takes only the top 18 teams in each relay out of the 102 possible teams represented at each Division's Relay Carnival, and requires 4 great swimmers together in an age group to have even a chance of qualifying. Our mixed age girls freestyle relay also broke a record that had stood since 1993 at the Division Relay Carnival, but just missed out on qualifying for All-Stars Relays. This represents a tremendous achievement and a sign that our team is becoming a deeper and more well-rounded team through years of work and coaching. Congratulations to the girls and Coach Catherine for this achievement.
- Please come help set up the deck tonight at 8PM for our next home A meet tomorrow! If many people set up, we can knock it out in 30 minutes or less. The meet will be extremely close tomorrow, so if your swimmer is signed up, please come in time for warm ups - no causing Kate or Catherine heart troubles in the morning.
- We have to start making decisions about the winter swim program; here's a survey to help us do so. To continue our progress, we're looking into creating a more robust winter swim program, but we can only do so if we have enough demand. We are considering switching our winter swim rental from The St. James to the Jewish Community Center on Little River Turnpike just outside the beltway. While we love TSJ, frequent cancelations due to special events, extremely noisy swim meets, and a lack of parking can make it a frustrating experience. Additionally, we would be able to rent an entire, 6-lane pool with shallow areas, which could allow us to run Transitional and Little Lazers (limited to those level 4 or above at the end of the season) and get those swimmers ready to move up to the big kid team by next season. However, this comes at a cost: the price for an entire pool is nearly double what it costs to rent 6 lanes at TSJ. So, to make this financially feasible, we need to know we have the demand for it. The survey at this link is designed to test that interest. It's not a commitment, but please only answer yes if you're seriously interested. If we don't have enough interest, we will go back to TSJ. Winter swim would cost the same as last year: $310 for the first swimmer, $285 for the second, and $260 for each additional swimmer. It will run from the first weekend in October through the third weekend in May, with some breaks for holidays, etc., with 24-25 sessions (not counting weather cancelations). It's critical for the success of the team to keep as many kids in the water as possible.
Thanks! Happy to answer any questions.
